SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — San Jose police say ten people were injured when a Mercedes driven by a suspected drunken driver broadsided a vehicle at an intersection before rolling and hitting several other cars and a street light.

Police tell the San Jose Mercury News a total of eight vehicles were involved in Sunday night's crash.

Officers used fire extinguishers to put out a fire that broke out in the Mercedes.

The driver and three passengers in the Mercedes were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver was seen speeding before the crash and tried to flee before being caught by officers.

Six other people were also injured, although the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Officer Albert Morales says they are expected to survive.
