SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (AP) -- Fourteen alleged members of a San Francisco street gang have been indicted by a federal grand jury on racketeering and conspiracy charges for a series of violent crimes, including a 2011 shooting death.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1cYhoio) the defendants, members of the Surenos gang, were named in an indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court on Thursday.
It accuses the defendants of conspiring to kill rival Norteno gang members. Two men, Jairo Hernandez and Carlos Vasquez, are accused of murder. The indictment doesn't name the victim.
If convicted of the murder charge, Hernandez and Vasquez could face the death penalty or a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison.
