SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Two people are dead in the Sacramento area after a stolen pickup truck being sought by police crashed into another vehicle.

Several media organizations reported that the chase began early Wednesday after a burglary in Auburn, about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento.

The California Highway Patrol says the suspects drove the pickup truck at high speeds along Interstate 80 to an intersection about 15 miles northeast of Sacramento before crashing into a second vehicle.

Two people in the second vehicle were killed.

The Placer County Sheriff's Department says two people were arrested near the scene.

A sheriff's deputy suffered a minor injury when a patrol car struck an embankment near the crash scene.

Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution during the manhunt.
