LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two former employees of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum have pleaded not guilty to corruption charges.
City News Service says Ulises Luna and Maria De La Torre entered pleas Monday to conspiracy, grand theft, embezzlement and other charges.
Luna was a warehouse worker and De La Torre was a payroll clerk. Prosecutors contend that De La Torre arranged to issue nearly $3,900 in checks to Luna after he was laid off in 2011. Luna then allegedly split the money with her.
If convicted, they could face up to three years in jail.
The historic Coliseum has been plagued by corruption accusations. Five former officials, contractors and event promoters — including the former events manager — are facing charges and former General Manager Patrick Lynch pleaded guilty last year to conflict-of-interest.
