HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say two people were killed and three were seriously injured when a dump truck careened off a freeway off ramp and collided with a car in the high desert of San Bernardino County.
The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at Interstate 15 near the Highway 138 exit in the Cajon Pass.
KABC-TV reports the truck carrying wet cement was leaving a construction site when it lost control for an unknown reason.
The truck barreled into a PT Cruiser at a gas station, crushing the vehicle and pushing it into a drainage ditch. It took firefighters several hours to extricate the victims.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were rushed to hospitals.
It's unknown whether the truck driver is among the victims.
