4 killed in unrelated shootings in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say four people were killed and several were wounded in a series of Labor Day shootings in South Los Angeles.

Detective David Garrido tells City News Service that two men were fired upon while walking on Jefferson Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Garrido says one man died at the scene and the other was transported to a hospital.

About 90 minutes later a man and a woman were shot in an alley off 9th Avenue. The woman died at the scene and the man was hospitalized in critical condition.

Garrido says the two shootings were not related to each other, but both may be gang-related.

Earlier two people were killed near West Florence and South Vermont avenues.

A person was injured in a nearby shooting about an hour later.
