HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) — School officials say a fourth-grader was among the five victims killed when a van hit and landed on top of their sedan on Mother's Day in Southern California.
Assistant Principal Ryan Miller sent a letter home to parents Monday informing them of the death of Joshua Circle Elementary student Freddy Garcia.
Garcia was one of five victims of a crash early Sunday when a man drove his van into the wrong lane in Hesperia and landed on top of a Honda sedan parked at a stop sign. The driver of the van had only minor injuries but the sedan's occupants were killed.
Sheriff's officials did not immediately identify the victims, pending investigation and notification of family, or the driver of the van.
