ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have removed an 11-year-old boy with autism from an Orange County home where investigators suspect he may have been kept in a cage.

Anaheim Police Lt. Bob Dunn tells KABC-TV that a mattress was found inside the large kennel-like cage.

Police say an anonymous caller tipped off authorities Tuesday night.

Dunn says the child was not in the cage when officers arrived, but there are varying reports that he may have been kept inside it for several months, and even years.

Detectives are interviewing the boy's parents but there's a language barrier because the parents are Vietnamese and speak very little English.

Dunn says the boy is physically in good shape.

Two other children, ages 8 and 10, were also taken from the home and turned over to Child Protective Services.
