GALT, Calif. (AP) — Sacramento-area police have surrounded a home where a suspect has barricaded himself after allegedly shooting an animal control officer.

Sacramento County Sheriff's officials say the county officer was shot around noon Wednesday in Galt, about 25 miles south of downtown Sacramento.

Officials say authorities have shut down the street where the home is located, and a SWAT team has been called to the scene.

The condition of the officer who was shot is unclear.
