Sara Vaccaro wrote in to say she and several other adults reported a case of what they thought was child abuse to the Carson City Sheriff's Department. She wants to know why no arrest was ever made ?
I talked to Sheriff Ken Furlong about this. Basically what he says is his deputies did go out to the scene and interview the suspect, who was the child's mother, who was reported to have been spanking her child repeatedly in the park that day.
Furlong says they investigated and determined that it was not necessarily a crime, but they did call in child protective services. Apparently the mother in this case has a history with child protective services and they were familiar with her.
Anyway, the bottom line is It was nothing criminal, at least that they could prove, but it was enough of a concern to call in CPS and they will take over the case from here.
