Question:
From the Ask Joe File one of our viewers, whose name you will probably recognize, has a question about some road construction in town.

Washoe County District Attorney Dick Gammick wrote in saying he's upset that he saw what he believes were bike lanes being painted on the road near Pyramid Way and Mccarran Blvd.    He wants to know why, since he says this is one of the most dangerous and congested intersections in Washoe County ?

Answer:
I checked with Scott Magruder and Meg Ragonese over at NDOT about this.  Mr. Gammick,  you can breathe a little easier because they assure me those are not bike lanes, just new traffic markers that are going in to mark the lanes.
It is a busy spot. 30,000 cars a day pass through it according to NDOT and there are some long range plans to purchase 65 homes in the area so the intersection can be widened at some point.   For now, crews are re-striping some of the lane lines but they say it is too congested to safely add bike lanes.   However when the real work gets underway to re-do the whole intersection, bike lanes will likely be included with the overall plan.   But again, because they are purchasing a number of homes we are probably years away from that phase.  So for now, take it slow, that is a busy stretch of road.
