LYNWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives have asked the public for help in the investigation of the fatal beating of a 65-year-old man on a busy Metro Blue Line train platform.

The Sheriff's Department said Tuesday that surveillance video shows John Wayne Whitmore being beaten by two women on June 13 at a station in unincorporated Willowbrook near Lynwood.

Authorities say there was a brief argument between Whitmore and the women before they began beating him while several people stood nearby. He suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was taken to a hospital where he died on June 20.

The county Board of Supervisors is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death of the local artist.
