LAS VEGAS (AP) — The majority leader of the Nevada Assembly says he's running to be a Clark County District Court judge.

William Horne announced Wednesday that he'd be vying for the Department 5 seat currently held by Judge Carolyn Ellsworth.

Horne is a Democrat and was first elected in 2002, but term limits prevent him from seeking another term in the Assembly.

He says he's enjoyed working as a lawyer and serving as a state lawmaker, and would bring a diverse set of experiences to the bench.

Horne graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and earned a law degree from UNLV's Boyd School of Law.

He's a father of four and a grandfather.
