FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Police have released the name and more details about a man they say was high on methamphetamine when he was shot and killed by a Fresno police officer.

Authorities say 34-year-old Jimmy Phea was shot by the officer as the two struggled during a confrontation inside an apartment around 12:20 Tuesday.

Police told the Fresno Bee  that Phea was staying with his sister in Fresno after being paroled three months ago after serving time for armed robbery in Michigan.

Police say there were also two arrest warrants for Phea, but did not say what he was wanted for.

Fresno Deputy Chief Pat Farmer says during the struggle between Phea and the officer, Phea's sister jumped on his back to help the officer when she saw her brother reaching for the officer's gun.

The officer was treated at the hospital for lacerations and bruises. His name has not been released.
