LOS ANGELES (AP) — The city of Bell is suing a legal firm for malpractice, claiming its handling of bond sales left the blue-collar Los Angeles suburb saddled with millions of dollars in debt.

City News Service says Los Angeles-based Meyers Nave was sued on Monday.

The suit claims Meyers Nave offered bad advice or withheld important information when it was hired as the city's bond counsel in 2009 in the midst of a corruption scandal, and again the next year when it was hired to provide interim city attorney services.

The scandal led to convictions or no contest pleas for former Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo and six other former city officials and City Council members.

The law firm's managing principal, David Skinner, calls the lawsuit claims unfounded.
