Cincinnati, OH ( - The Cincinnati Bengals promoted Hue Jackson to offensive coordinator on Thursday.

Jackson will replace Jay Gruden, who accepted the head coaching job with the Washington Redskins earlier on Thursday.

"It's an honor to be Bengals offensive coordinator, and to keep working with Marvin (Lewis) and Mike Brown and the Brown family," Jackson said. "I thank them all for this opportunity. Our goal is to be the best, to be the one team hoisting that trophy when it's all over, and that's what I'll be working for every day."

Jackson, who is in his second stint with the Bengals, served as the team's running backs coach in 2013. The 48-year-old was Cincinnati's wide receivers coach from 2008-2009 before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders in 2010.

In 2011, Jackson was promoted to head coach for Oakland and led the team to a 7-4 start before closing the campaign with four losses of the Raiders' final five games leading to Jackson's dismissal.
