LOS ANGELES (AP) — A big-rig has slammed into an Interstate 5 center divider and caught fire, causing a Los Angeles commuter headache.

The trucker escaped unharmed from the burning cab after the 3:15 a.m. Tuesday crash in the Atwater Village-Silver Lake area about three miles northeast of downtown.

KNX radio says the rig apparently blew a tire.

Both sides of Interstate 5 are shut down while road crews work to remove the truck, which is straddling the concrete divider.

Commuter traffic is backed up for a mile.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Alvarez tells KTTV-TV the freeway likely won't reopen until 6:30 a.m., at the earliest.

Northbound traffic is being taken off the freeway at Stadium Way. Southbound traffic is forced off at Fletcher Drive.
