The body of a 19 year old missing woman from the bay area was found this morning.
According to Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell, the body of Alyssa Byrne was found at 8:30 a.m. this morning by a utility worker, who found her in a snowbank 10 feet off of Pioneer Trail in South Lake between Black Bart and Al Tahoe Blvd, approximately 1 mile west of where the Snow Globe Festival was. Her family was notified this morning.
The body wasn't able to seen because of elevated snow, but she was found laying in snow. There was no outward signs of trauma observed yet and she may have been walking back from the Snow Globe Festival event in very cold conditions. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but Deputies say no foul play is expected and she was found wearing the clothing matching her description.
Howell says eyewitness testimony may have been wrong and since her body was found in El Dorado County, the El Dorado County Sheriff's office will be taking over the case.
