HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) — An 8-year-old Southern California boy is fighting for his life after being critically injured in a plane crash that killed a veteran Los Angeles paramedic.

The Victorville Daily Press reports that Sebastian Joshua Grewal underwent a second surgery Tuesday to relieve pressure on his brain. He was in extremely critical condition Wednesday.

The boy, from Hesperia, was injured Monday when the single-engine Grumman AA-1A nosedived and crashed at El Mirage Dry Lake in San Bernardino County.

The pilot, 47-year-old Brian Lee, was killed. Lee, a paramedic for the LA Fire Department, was a family friend who gave Sebastian a plane ride during a camping trip.

Sebastian's father, Josh Grewal, says his son wants to be a pilot when he grows up.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
