CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Selected among outstanding military youth, Angel Reynoso, Nellis Air Force Base has been named the Nevada Military Youth of the Year and Felix Cox has been named the Nevada Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.
As the new teen representative for all Boys & Girls Clubs in Nevada, Cox will receive a $2,000 college scholarship via a private contribution from U.S. Senator Dean Heller and an additional $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation.
As the new teen representative for all BGCA Affiliated Military Youth Programs in Nevada, Reynoso will receive a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation.
BIO INFORMATION:
Felix Cox, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows
Felix, 18, is a senior at Hug High School and is the captain of the varsity basketball team. Felix struggled to find his identity as a child; that is, until he was introduced to basketball at the Boys & Girls Club in sixth grade. Since then Felix became a leader at the Club and is currently the Keystone Club president and participates in several community service projects. Felix’s future goals include becoming the first in his immediate family to graduate from college and attending law school to become a sports agent.
This summer, Cox will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members within the Pacific Region. If named regional winner, he will be awarded an additional $10,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands, the recognition program’s national sponsor. Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C., in September 2013, to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of up to $50,000 from The Rick and Susan Goings Foundation and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the White House.
Angel Reynoso, Nellis Air Force Base
Angel, 17, attends Centennial High School where he is a member of the Theater Club. He is the Secretary of the Gold Level Keystone Club and was selected as a Teen Ambassador for the 2013 National Keystone Conference. Angel has volunteered at the youth center’s adopt-family-program, rescue missions, homeless shelter and senior citizen homes and has traveled to the Philippines and Mexico on church mission trips. Angel plans to attend Southern Nevada Community College and study Business Administration/ Theater.
This summer, Reynoso will compete against other BGCA Military Affiliated state winners within the Pacific Region. If named Military Regional winner for the Pacific Region, he will be awarded an additional $10,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands, the recognition program’s national sponsor. Reynoso will then move on to the National Military Youth of the Year competition and will be one of six Military Regional winners to compete in Washington D.C. in September 2013 a week prior to the National Youth of the Year competition. The youth identified as the National Military Youth of the Year will be one of six regional winners and will advance to the final level of competition in Washington D.C. in September 2013, to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of up to $50,000 from The Rick and Susan Goings Foundation and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the White House.
