Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Just seven days after he was fired as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Leslie Frazier has found a new gig.

Frazier was announced as the next defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.

The Bucs fired coach Greg Schiano on Dec. 30 -- the same day Frazier was let go in Minnesota -- after a stormy two-year tenure and amid a house-cleaning that also cost general manager Mark Dominik his job.

Tampa Bay tabbed former Chicago coach Lovie Smith as Schiano's successor on Jan. 2 and Smith wasted little time filling out his coaching staff, naming former University of California coach Jeff Tedford as the club's offensive coordinator on Saturday before officially adding Frazier on Monday.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Leslie Frazier and I consider myself very fortunate to have him on my staff," Smith said. "Leslie is one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL and he has a long track record of helping players reach their full potential. He transformed Minnesota's defense into one of the league's elite units during his time there and I look forward to working with him to do the same here in Tampa Bay."

Frazier has a history as a defensive coordinator. He led the Vikings defense prior to his promotion to head coach and also served in that position for the Bengals from 2003-04. His units in Minnesota ranked in the top-10 in defense in three of his four seasons. He went 21-32-1 in three-plus seasons as head coach.

The Bucs (4-12) had the 17th-ranked defense in the league this season. They haven't made the playoffs since 2007.
