NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — California Highway Patrol officers say a man walked into oncoming traffic on Interstate 805 near San Diego City early Monday. He died after being struck twice, but only one driver called for help.

CHP officers tell KNSD-TV the unidentified dead man walked into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes shortly after midnight.

He was hit by a car in the slow lane and thrown into the carpool lane where he was hit by a second car. The first driver fled, the second stopped and called for help.

The crash happened in National City, about seven miles south of San Diego.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
