MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A California Highway Patrol officer and two others are injured after a vehicle struck an ambulance that had responded to a prior crash.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on the State Route 60 freeway in Moreno Valley. CHP spokesman Steve Carapia says firefighters and other emergency responders had arrived at the scene of a crash when another vehicle hit an ambulance, which hit the officer and another person.

The officer had moderate injuries, while the driver of the vehicle that struck the ambulance and the second person suffered major injuries.

Westbound lanes of the freeway have been shut down for several hours.
