SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man suspected in death of his girlfriend and injury of his infant daughter after they were pushed or jumped from a truck has been arrested.
Santa Ana police say 21-year-old Francisco Montano turned himself in Friday night but has not cooperated with detectives. He was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, pending further investigation.
Montano's 13-month-old daughter was found on the road Halloween night next to her mother, who suffered massive head trauma. Both were taken to a hospital, where the mother died.
Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said family members who saw photos of the bruised and tearful infant in the news helped police identity her and her mother. Relatives also said they had been living with Montano in his car.
The child remained hospitalized in stable condition.
