SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) -- A statewide Blue Alert was issued after a shooting near Bakersfield that injured a California Highway Patrol officer Sunday night.

The Central Division CHP announced the alert over Twitter on Monday morning.

Police are after two suspects. One is described as a man in his 20s who was last seen wearing a white cowboy hat with a button-up shirt, officers said.

He may be driving a dark blue Chevrolet or GMC Yukon-type vehicle. A license plate isn't known, but the vehicle is believed to have a model year in the 2000s. The rear cargo window was shot out, and the vehicle has 24-inch rims with low-profile tires, police said.

The CHP says to use caution when approaching this vehicle. The weapon used was a 9-millimeter automatic handgun, police said.  The second suspect is also a man in his 20s, but he was last seen wearing a light-colored tank top.

The shooting happened on State Route 178, east of Bakersfield.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kern County Sheriff's Department at 661-861-3110.
