BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) — A California man is dead after a watercraft accident on the Colorado River in northwestern Arizona.

Bullhead City police say 53-year-old Charles Alan Knutson, of Upland, was jet skiing with friends Thursday evening by Rotary Park when the throttle got stuck on a standup water ski.

They say Knutson tried to control the unmanned jet ski that was spinning in circles, but it hit his watercraft and he was thrown into the water.

His friends told police that Knutson swam back to shore, but was unresponsive when he reached the dock.

Paramedics transported Knutson to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the cause of death isn't immediately known.
