New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The National Hockey League issued a three- game suspension to Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray on Thursday.
Murray was punished for delivering an illegal check to the head of Tampa Bay forward Michael Kostka late in the third period of Tuesday's 3-1 Lightning victory.
The Swedish blueliner was given a match penalty for his effort.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Murray stands to lose $23,076.93 in salary, which automatically goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance fund.
Murray will miss the Habs' games at Ottawa on Friday, Detroit on Saturday and at Chicago on April 9 before being eligible to return on April 10 against the New York Islanders.
