CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A select committee named to recommend whether embattled Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks is fit to serve in the Legislature will meet next week.
Democratic Assembly Majority Leader William Horne says the seven-member bipartisan panel will convene at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Carson City Courthouse.
The committee will hear evidence presented by an independent counsel before recommending whether Brooks should retain his seat.
He could face expulsion, something that would require a two-thirds vote in the Assembly.
Since January the North Las Vegas Democrat has been arrested twice and hospitalized for a mental evaluation.
He banned from the Legislature Building in February and put on leave, though he is challenging that in the state Supreme Court.
