SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A sheriff's helicopter crew rescued a motorcyclist who crashed and careened off a mountain highway and down a hillside in San Bernardino.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the crash was reported late Sunday morning along a curving section of Highway 18.
Deputy John Scalise says the victim was hurt and stranded about 100 feet down the heavily wooded hillside.
City firefighters used ropes to climb down to the biker and then called the air crew after the terrain proved too steep. Paramedics aboard the helicopter hoisted the man to safety and then flew him to a hospital.
Officials say the 39-year-old man suffered cuts and a broken collarbone.
