ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors are accusing the operators of a San Francisco Bay Area used car dealer of tampering with odometers to make it seem like vehicles had fewer miles than they actually did.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office filed dozens of misdemeanor and felony charges Wednesday against George Guevarra and his wife, Danielle Guevarra, in connection with the alleged odometer rollback scheme.

The couple operated Jorge's California Car sales, a dealer in Antioch. Prosecutors say they ordered odometers with lower miles that were then put into higher-mileage vehicles bought at auction. The vehicles were allegedly sold at inflated prices based on the fraudulent lower mileage.

The couple is facing charges including grand theft by false pretenses and odometer rollback.

It was not immediately clear whether they had an attorney.
