LAS VEGAS (AP) — A crosswalk safety drive will have Clark County school police dressed as Santa Claus watching for jaywalkers and motorists failing to yield to pedestrians near three Las Vegas schools.

The effort begins a little after 7 a.m. Monday near Arbor View High School, and 8:15 a.m. near Cadwallader Middle School. Both are in northwest Las Vegas.

Crosswalk Santas will spend the rest of the morning near Cashman Middle School in southwest Las Vegas.

They'll be back at Arbor View before 1 p.m. and Cadwallader about 2 p.m.

Officials say failure-to-yield summonses carry a minimum $191 fine plus court costs and fees.

Jaywalking tickets can also be expensive.

There have been 46 pedestrian fatalities in Clark County so far this year, compared with 42 for all of 2012.
