Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs have placed newly acquired pitcher Felix Doubront on the disabled list with a left calf strain.
Doubront, 26, was acquired from the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday for a player to be named. The southpaw went 2-4 with a 6.07 ERA in 17 appearances (10 starts) for Boston this season, compiling a 26-22 with three saves and a 4.82 ERA over 98 games -- 69 starts -- since making his debut with the Red Sox in 2010.
To replace Doubront on the active roster, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Blake Parker from Triple-A Iowa. Chicago also selected the contract of infielder Chris Valaika from Triple-A.
Parker has recorded 21 saves, which lead all of Triple-A baseball, and a 1.29 ERA in 28 games for Iowa while striking out 12.9 batters per nine innings.
Valaika is batting .278 with 10 homers and 50 RBI in 102 games with Iowa this season.
