'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes' tops at box office

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has climbed its way to the top of the North American box office with a $73 million debut this weekend.

The sequel to 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," starring Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell, bested last week's number one, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," which earned $16.5 million in its second week of release.

Melissa McCarthy's comedy "Tammy" placed third with $12.9 million, while "22 Jump Street" took the fourth spot, earning $6.7 million.

Rounding out the top five is "How to Train Your Dragon 2" with $5.9 million.
