BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) — A Fort Mohave man wanted on an armed theft warrant has been shot and wounded by authorities in northwestern Arizona.

Mohave County Sheriff's officials say 21-year-old Robert Hutchings was shot early Wednesday after he appeared to reach for a weapon.

They say Hutchings was a passenger in a pickup truck that sheriff's deputies pulled over on County Highway 1 in south Mohave County.

Authorities say Hutchings initially exited the vehicle with his hands showing but suddenly jumped back in and reached into the floorboard on the passenger side.

Deputies fired at the suspect and the suspect jumped into the vehicle and took off.

Authorities later tracked him to a home in Needles, Calif. He was taken into custody by San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies and will be extradited to Arizona.
