SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — Sheriff's search and rescue crews are scouring a Los Angeles County canyon for a missing dirt bike rider.

City News Service says the family of 54-year-old Antonio Marquez last heard from him about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and reported him missing a few hours later.

Marquez had said he would be riding his motorcycle on Rower Flats in San Francisquito Canyon near Santa Clarita.

Deputy Joshua Dubin says Marquez had told his daughter by cell phone that he was on a treacherous trail and did not have time to talk to her.

Two helicopters equipped with infrared cameras are involved in the search.
