SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say a driver struck and seriously injured a woman while fleeing from a Zombie Walk.

It happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday at an intersection near the annual Comic-Con.

Officer David Stafford says the 48-year-old driver and his family had waited for minutes as marchers — some in zombie makeup — went by.

Stafford says the driver's children became afraid of the crowd and he rolled slowly forward. Some crowd members then surrounded and jumped on the car, pounded on it and smashed the windshield.

Stafford says the driver sped up to flee and hit a 64-year-old woman, who received a badly scraped arm that will need surgery.

The car was chased a short distance and stopped near a police officer.

The driver wasn't arrested pending investigation.
