MARTINEZ, Calif. (AP) — A recently retired Northern California fire captain is under arrest after authorities say he stole uniforms, expensive tools and other items from local firehouses.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office says former fire district Capt. Jon Wilmot was arrested in December on suspicion of grand theft and burglary, and released on $30,000 bail.

The 51-year-old Wilmot retired just before his arrest, according to the Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/UouYjr ).

A search warrant executed on Wilmot's cars and properties returned 268 items including supplies, tools and fire gear.

The fire district has also filed a restraining order against Wilmot, accusing him of keeping a "large cache of illegal weapons" and threatening employees.

Sheriff's deputies seized 53 guns and ammunition from Wilmot, which has sparked a federal investigation, according to NBC Bay Area.
