IRWINDALE, Calif. (AP) — A former Irwindale police cadet claims she was sexually harassed by a lieutenant and forced to quit the department.

The Los Angeles Times says Alma Chavez sued the Los Angeles-area suburb last month.

She worked four years as a cadet, beginning in 2008.

Her suit against the city claims that during that time, the lieutenant kissed and groped her and created a hostile work environment that coerced her into accepting his advances.

The suit claims that Chavez was forced to resign by the lieutenant after he discovered that her boyfriend was living with her at a condo he'd rented to her.

Attorney Jeffrey Thompson, who is representing the department, declined to comment specifically on the suit but says the city believes it has done nothing wrong.
