GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A former St. Patrick High School teacher has been charged with transportation of minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Prosecutors say 68-year-old William Richard Pryor is being held in the Stone County jail after an initial appearance Thursday in U.S. District Court in Gulfport.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Details of the charges have not been released.

Catholic Diocese of Biloxi Superintendent Mike Ladner tells WLOX-TV in Biloxi Pryor resigned from St. Patrick High School on Tuesday. Ladner says Pryor taught math.

Ladner says Pryor previously worked at St. John High School and Bayou View Middle School in Gulfport.

Ladner says he's been led to believe by investigators that Pryor's alleged activities did not occur while he was employed by the Catholic Diocese.
