LOS ANGELES (AP) — The family of a 35-year-old woman who died in a Los Angeles police patrol car after a violent arrest six months ago wants officials to release video of her last moments.
Alesia Thomas died July 22. Her mother, Sandra Thomas, spoke to the Police Commission Tuesday urging officials to make the video public.
Police said at the time that she put up a violent struggle and resisted arrest by attempting to pull away from the officers.
The incident sparked an ongoing investigation into at least five police officers.
Deputy Chief Rick Jacobs says the department is trying to expedite the investigation.
A coroner's report says it's unclear exactly why Thomas died, but cocaine intoxication appears to be a major factor.
