A 31 year old Carson City resident was killed last night when his sedan was hit by a SUV on US 395.
The driver of the blue 1995 Ford 4-door sedan was pulling out of a 7-11 store near Riverview Dr. and US 395 and attempted to cross the southbound lane to turn left onto the northbound lane. While the male driver proceeded, he was hit by a Mercury Mountaineer SUV that was travelling south. The SUV struck the left side of the sedan, causing both vehicles to be disabled and blocked traffic in two lanes.
The driver of the Ford sedan was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville where he succumbed to his injuries before he was to be airlifted to Reno. The female passenger in the sedan was airlifted to Renown by Careflight. She was treated for her injuries and was released. The driver of the SUV, 36 year old Jeremy T. Reineman of Fredericksburg, Virginia, was not injured in the accident.
Nevada Highway Patrol said that alcohol is a contributing factor in the crash. NHP Troopers are continuing to investigate and ask that anyone with additional information call 775-689-4623.
