LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas officials have cancelled a fire academy graduation ceremony while they investigate whether students cheated on a written exam.

City spokesman David Riggleman issued a statement saying the city is doing a full investigation into the matter, but didn't describe details about the allegations. He said integrity is a core value for the city and the accusations are being taken seriously.

Fourteen people were set to graduate Thursday from the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue's 20-week program. But the ceremony and the fire careers of the recruits are now on hold.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman told KLAS-TV the allegations were disappointing and sad.
