LAS VEGAS (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is honoring the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District with a prestigious national award.

Obama appeared at a Thursday ceremony at the White House to give the district the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, which is the highest community service honor a museum or library can win.

Officials with the awards program say the library district realigned its programs and services to the needs of a community hard-hit by foreclosures, bankruptcy and unemployment during the recession.

Those included job training and resources for job-seekers.

The district is one of ten museums and libraries that are receiving the medal.
