TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — The skeletal remains discovered near Donner Lake in July have been identified as a 60-year-old Truckee man who'd been missing since March.

Colin's family had reported him missing on March 28 when he last was seen at a drug store in Truckee. His car was parked in his driveway and an exhaustive search failed to develop any leads.

The hikers came across the remains July 12 in a steep, heavily wooded area west of Donner Lake Road.

The Nevada County Sheriff's coroner says an anthropology lab in Chico confirmed the identity Tuesday. At the time he disappeared, police say Colin discussed wanting to contact the federal government, but gave no reason.

Police say it's highly unlikely any foul play was involved, but the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
