KINGSBURG, Calif. (AP) — A Fresno County woman has been found guilty of shooting and killing her husband in what prosecutors said was an attempt to get insurance money.
After deliberating for only about an hour, a jury on Wednesday found 48-year-old Kathryn Ellis of Kingsburg guilty of murdering her 54-year-old husband Robert Ellis as he slept at their home in September.
The Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/1f3h6BL) reports that Kathryn Ellis, who was unemotional during her trial testimony, cried in court when the verdict was read. She could get life in prison when she's sentenced.
Prosecutors said the couple had financial problems, and Kathryn Ellis had inquired about upgrading her husband's life insurance policies prior to his death.
Ellis told investigators her husband was shot during a struggle with an intruder.
