SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Leslie Lopez Wood scored 16 points to lead Alemany of Mission Hills to a 46-40 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco to take the girls' Division III state championship Friday at Sacramento's Sleep Train Arena.
Hannah Johnson added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Alemany (32-5) in its first state championship win.
A'shanti Coleman led Sacred Heart Cathedral (25-7) with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Alemany broke a 34-34 tie with 5:03 left by running off seven straight points, capped by Lopez Wood's three-pointer with 2:32 left.
Sacred Heart Cathedral never got closer than four points thereafter.
