RENO, NV (Mynews4.com & KRNV) - Health officials at UNR say they have seen a surge of students showing up to get tested since a rumor that there was an HIV outbreak on campus began circulating.
Health officials at UNR and in Washoe County have said there is no evidence of an HIV outbreak.
The campus is in the middle of their annual two week free testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections. Dr. Cheryl Hug-English, Medical Director at UNR, says the rumor has caused an interest in students. Dr. Hug-English says they see this as an opportunity to better inform students about not only HIV but other sexually transmitted infections.
The free testing for students lasts until April 13, 2012.
