IRWINDALE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a man's decapitated body was found in a riverbed in a Los Angeles suburb, and a head was discovered nearby.
Irwindale police Chief Anthony Miranda tells the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that a man searching for recyclables in the riverbed found the head and the body and reported them to police at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Miranda says it appears the remains had been there for a while, but had no further details yet on the body or the death.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that the body was a man and sheriff's homicide detectives are assisting Irwindale police in the investigation, but gave no further details.
Irwindale is about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
