Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston Baptist has agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 academic year with football coach Vic Shealy, the Southland Conference university announced Tuesday.
Houston Baptist is a start-up program in its first full season after playing a developmental schedule last year. The Huskies open their 2014 season on Saturday by hosting McMurry.
"We have been greatly pleased with the startup of football under Coach Shealy and are very convinced that he is the man we want leading our program for years to come," HBU athletic director Steve Moniaci said. "The type of young man that Coach Shealy and his staff have recruited are indicative of the type of young men we want to see at HBU."
HBU hired Shealy in April 2012. He spent four years as the head coach at Azusa Pacific from 1995-98, winning the NAIA national championship in his final season. He has been an assistant at Kansas, Richmond, UNLV, Air Force, Austin Peay and Mars Hills.
