JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The head of Jackson's airport authority is retiring after 25 years.

Dirk Vanderleest has been CEO at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport since 1990. Before that, he spent five years as CEO for the airport in Huntsville, Alabama.

Vanderleest tells The Clarion-Ledger that he's been on call 24/7 for 30 years, and he and his family have decided it's time to do something else.

He says he notified the board of commissioners last week that he's retiring Sept. 30.

Vanderleest says he might do something else in the aviation business.
